Sedation Dentistry

Avoiding your dental check-ups is one of the worst things you can do for your smile! However, many patients put off regular visits because of the anxiety and fears that come along with scheduling an appointment. Past bad experiences or unknown expectations can stress many patients out before they’ve walked through the door. Luckily, sedation dentistry can wipe away the fears and help patients face any visit feeling calm and comfortable! With sedation dentistry, scary appointments are a thing of the past and dental health can be addressed head-on without fear. We offer 3 types of sedation – oral, nitrous and IV sedation. Each form of sedation will help you feel relaxed and at ease, unbothered by surrounding sounds and smells. You will still be able to respond to your dentist if needed but will most likely remember little to nothing from your appointment.

Nitrous Sedation

Also known as laughing gas, nitrous sedation is one of the most commonly used forms of sedation dentistry. Nitrous sedation is used by wearing a mask over your nose. The sedation begins to work within minutes of applying the mask. Once the mask is removed, the sedation will begin to wear away. You will be able to resume your normal activities following your appointment.

Oral Sedation

Oral sedation is taken in pill form. This type of sedation also begins to work within minutes. Oral sedation does not wear off as fast as nitrous sedation, so a driver will need to accompany you to your visit. Oral sedation is very effective and can be used for most appointments depending on what your dentist recommends.

IV Sedation

IV sedation is mostly used for more extensive treatment. An IV is placed and the strength of sedation can be raised or lowered throughout your appointment, allowing your dentist to adjust it as needed. You may sleep through some or all of your appointment with IV sedation.
